October Featured Skater: Cut n Dye

Boy, this year has flown by so quickly! It’s already October, which means the fun is just starting with all the ghosts and goblins. That also means we have our next featured skater! She looks mysterious, wears a mask all year and even carries a head around too! Congratulations to Cut n Dye for being Hard Knox’s October Featured Skater!

Last month’s featured skater, Lyda-Kain stated that you have been by her side helping her learn since she started a few years ago and she has always wanted to know what makes your gears turn behind that mask of yours.

What keeps my gears turning under the mask I wear... well I guess everyone knows that I wear a face mask during bouts because in 2011 I had my nose broken, but not just any break. It was shattered! But that did not stop me from doing the only sport I have ever enjoyed! There are a lot of reasons I like roller derby, I get to meet a lot of fun, crazy, awesome, different people. I get to travel to different places. It’s also a great way to get exercise in a way that you can actually have fun and not even know it is exercise. My teammates will do anything for one another, just like any other league would do; it's a one of a kind family bond. I could keep going with all the awesome things I like about derby but I'll stop there so I don't answer only one question today!

How long have you been playing derby?

I have been playing roller derby for a little over 6 years now, about to start my 7th season.

That is a good investment of time into this awesome sport! Not many people get to know the derby team except on the track. Do you have any hobbies outside of derby that you would like to share with your fans?

Yes, I have hobbies outside of derby. I enjoy mountain bike riding and going to the gun range in my spare time when I'm not at work.

I hear you are a doggie lover, do you have any? What are their names?

Actually, I love all animals but yes, I love dogs! I have 7 Chihuahuas! Yes, 7! It seems like a lot but between all of them, they might weigh around 35 pounds or less. They are pretty much equal to one dog with a lot of different barks. Their names are Kusko, Albert, Dottie, Daisy, Buttercup, Lilly, and Mocha.

Wow! I have two dogs of my own and they are hard to keep up with! They are like little kids; I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to have seven! They must keep you busy! Speaking of being busy, do you have any good, funny stories?

A funny story… I don’t have one in particular but I have examples of some. One is while we are at practice, doing our drills and practicing and all that stuff. I look over and see a skater randomly fall. It just makes me laugh! We like to call those "track monsters"; they come out of nowhere and grab you! It just makes me giggle! There are multiple times this has happened throughout the years I have been with the league, but it never gets old!

I must agree! Those are the best things to witness (to other skaters, of course). I hate when it happens to you but we all know it happens to everyone and can have a good laugh about it! So since weird things happen to us on the track, if you could be a super hero, who would you be and why?

I would be Hit Girl because she can take hits from all kinds of people and she cuts and shoots things and wears a lot of purple! Purple is my favorite color! She is just awesome and she was in the movie "Kick Butt"!

Never heard of her, I will have to watch that movie! Totally random question… if you had a million dollars, what would you buy and why?

Oh! I would love to have that much money! I would buy lots of land and put a big building on it so my team could have our own place and we could use it for bouts and practice, along with having a banked track. I would have a big skate park and a skating rink. If I had money left over, I would just buy things as needed for animals and families in need.

You have shared a lot of interesting things about your quiet self, but what is one thing that nobody knows about you?

I am not sure if a lot of people know this about me... but I am very double jointed in my hands and feet! I can bend my fingers backward, turn my hands around, I can turn my feet up right so you can see the bottom, and I can bend my toes and walk on them. Those are just a few things to list! There are more crazy things I can do, but it is October right?

This is the best month for you to be featured skater! You have so many different, neat things that I wouldn’t have guessed about you! So, what is your favorite food and why?

My favorite food would be anything home cooked but I will pretty much eat everything!

Well, that was an easy question! Next time I will need to find a harder question for you! Thank you for sharing all this wonderful knowledge and now the cat is out of the bag about who is behind this mask! Cut, who would you like to see as November's featured skater?

For November, I would like to see Rabbit! She started off as a fan of roller derby, then became a referee for HKRG, and now she is a skater on the team! I would like to hear about her love for derby and her take on everything!

Until next time!
